Bring an EDD spreadsheet into the model and send it back in the same format, without losing results.

Card for the article "Import and export an EDD (Ecbyts standard)", an ecbyts guided tour with fictitious data.

Field and lab spreadsheets often arrive in different formats, and every format change is a chance to lose a row, a unit or the note that a result was not detected. The EDD is the spreadsheet that organizes this into three tabs: locations, samples and results. In ecbyts you bring that spreadsheet into the model and send it back in the same format.

The Import and export an EDD (Ecbyts standard) tour takes about 5 minutes and uses screens that already exist in ecbyts, with a fictitious sample file generated in your browser. No account or plan is needed, and nothing is saved to the cloud.

What the tour shows, step by step

  1. Import and export an EDD. The field and lab data spreadsheet: locations, samples and results.
  2. Import. In the File group, the Import button opens the wizard that takes spreadsheets, templates and spatial files.
  3. The wizard. It recognizes the spreadsheet by its tabs and headers and guides you one decision at a time.
  4. A sample file. A fictitious spreadsheet with 2 wells, 1 sampling round, benzene detected and toluene not detected.
  5. Up to the review. You move on with the Next button; the tour only continues when the wizard actually reaches the review.
  6. Ingest. You confirm and the data enters the model (or the merge dialog opens, if there is already data).
  7. Export. The export dialog lists the formats and what each one keeps.
  8. EDD format. The XLSX in the EDD standard, the same as the spreadsheet you imported.
  9. Download. The spreadsheet template dialog opens and you export; the tour only finishes when the spreadsheet is generated.
  10. Cycle closed. Re-importing this spreadsheet brings back the same points and results. Non-detects stay censored, never turned into made-up numbers.

Scope and limits

The sample file is fictitious and serves to practice the route. Validating your real EDD against agency rules and checking the lab data stay with you: after importing your own spreadsheet, review the mapping and the results before using them.

How much it costs

The tour is free and requires no sign-up.
